Ms. Farzanah Chowdhury is a trend setter in Bangladesh’s insurance and financial sectors, currently serving as the Managing Director & CEO of Green Delta Insurance PLC. Under her visionary leadership, Green Delta has grown into the leading non-life insurance company in Bangladesh, serving over 1.2 million clients annually and covering assets worth more than BDT 3 trillion. It is the first insurance company in the country to earn Superbrands recognition and maintain an AAA credit rating for 11 consecutive years.
Ms. Chowdhury is credited with pioneering digital insurance in Bangladesh, launching the sector’s first mobile app in 2020 and a digital insurance ecosystem in 2023. She has also expanded Green Delta's offerings beyond traditional insurance, integrating services such as investment banking, wealth management, healthcare, and skill development platforms into a comprehensive financial services conglomerate.
A chartered insurer and the first female CEO in Bangladesh's insurance sector, Ms. Chowdhury has significantly impacted the industry by introducing micro-insurance, crop insurance, and insurance schemes for women, including the Nibedita scheme for women’s economic security. Her contributions extend to the marginalized sectors of the country, aiming to make insurance services accessible to everyone, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Ms. Chowdhury has led Green Delta to diversify into new areas such as bancassurance, offering insurance through banking channels in partnership with the country's largest private banks. Under her leadership, the company has also entered the healthcare sector through subsidiaries like GD Assist and the acquisition of Aster Pharmacy, creating an end-to-end healthcare solution for its clients.
A recognized leader in sustainable development, Ms. Chowdhury was named a Local SDG Pioneer by the UN Global Compact for her initiatives aimed at promoting women’s economic security. She has been awarded the Chartered Insurer status by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII, UK) and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Best CEO of the Year (Insurance) and Woman Leader of the Year in the South Asian Business Excellence Awards.
Her academic credentials include a Master of Business Administration from Monash University, Australia, and a Master of Commerce in Finance and Banking from the University of Dhaka. She also holds ACII and FCII designations from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII, UK), further affirming her expertise in the insurance field.
Ms. Chowdhury's leadership extends beyond the insurance industry. She is an active member of several prominent boards and organizations, including the World Economic Forum’s New Champion Community, Bangladesh Employers' Federation, and Bangladesh Insurance Association, among others.
